Over 200 members of different Christian churches in Kiribati joined together last week to paint the external walls of the Tungaru Central Hospital at Nawerewere. They came to finish the job they started last November when they painted all the interior walls of the hospital.
Volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Church of God, and Assembly of God used over 900 litres of blue and white paint to beautify the hospital. The project took three days, with the finishing touches applied last Thursday (20 May).
“We were blessed with good weather, “ said one of the organizers, Burentia Kaiea,Welfare Manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Island of Tarawa.
Joining in thanking the participants were Rikiaua Takeke, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Teatao Tira, Hospital Director.
Responding for the participating churches were Howard Niu, Manager of the Latter-day Saints' Service Center for Kiribati and Marshall Islands, Pastor Tiroba Aretana of the Church of God, and Pastor Tebareta Tentoa of the Assembly of God Church.
Mabeta Boanareke represented the volunteers in thanking the hospital for the privilege of being able to serve. He ended his remarks with a rousing cheer for all who participated.
